Assignment 9 / Concept Design

My feeling to the Site

The  first time we visited the site  was a cold winter day, it was cloudy and windy , it make me feel depress and  it really make me wish have never came out of my house that day . The place seemed a desert , there were not people there, even the view was very nice , I had a feeling of emptiness and  I felt lost at some point. I also felt fear, when my friend and I tried to visit the site , we could not access to the place  due to it was a restricted  area.

Program

The program of my building is Yoga Center / Spa . In this collage I have illustrated some  images related to the program; women practicing yoga , some healthy food that I am planning to include in the Vegetarian Lounge  and  some essences as oil , flowers and candles necessary for spa sessions .

Edge

Based on my program and my feeling to the site , the word edge is related to the edge of a broken piece of glass. The cutting glass evokes danger , end of something but when it mixes with pure water , these create a strong connection, the broken glass means stability and the water coming out of the glass means motion and strongest.

Water Front Research

Chose a city with a newly revitalized waterfront.
Answer the following questions with text, images and diagrams.

I chose Brooklyn because I consider it has great ,well renovated waterfronts  that I could take for reference to my project.

What caused the change at the waterfront?
The idea to create a new innovated place .
What are the new uses?

Brooklyn bridge Park is accessible by various forms of Transportation

by bus
by walking
by biking

Is there boat or water access?

Yes , a ferry dock is located on the southern edge of Pier 6 providing free ferry service to Governors Island.

How does the waterfront attract people?
The center of attention  is a triangular wood-covered platform that lifts off from a corner of the pier at the water's edge like a barely tethered magic carpet. At its high point, the platform rises 17-and-a-half feet, offering a vantage point to take in killer views of the Lower Manhattan skyline.
The viewing platform, supported by steel columns, is also a prime spot to take in the Statue of Liberty. There is room beneath it for a shady seating area that's 3,000 square feet in size.

What are the amenities?
Open spaces , green areas and clean paths where people can walk around the place and enjoy the view.

What type of retail/commercial/residential are at the waterfront?

There are Playgrounds , Green Lawns, the platform with view to the river.

What is successful about this waterfront development?
The successful part about the waterfront is the big wood platform which attracts people. As well the open space , which allows the children play around and the great view toward the river.
