Building Precedent for Design and Structure

This is precedent for my building structure. I chose the Path Terminal by Santiago Calatrava because the structure is kind of similar to what I want to achieve. 

Landscape Precedents- Canopies

In order to continue working with my building design and the landscape , I though about canopies , I looked for some example and I found this one , which called my attention the most .The design of structure is very light but strong . I like the function of it which is provide shelter to the pedestrian but also the friendly way it works with the rest of the buildings . 

I like the idea to use these canopies in my building , besides these connect the triangular design concept, these are a great element  to provide shape to the green spaces . The elongated triangles work in harmony with the nature  and  these invites the pedestrians to enjoy the place . 

This are some sketches I developed to 

 show how the concept of  the canopies would work in the site . The colorful canopies are going to be place at the front of the structure , this are going to extend over the green open area towards the river .The second is more an addition to my building structure which will  held the pool , relaxation area  and  the vegetarian lounge and above of it will be  open space for

These are some simple diagrams I have created to illustrate the most relevant spaces in my building , I am still trying to figure out how the partition walls are going to be . I am also still working with my physical hybrid model ,I think this is very util  and it will help me to understand better the distribution of spaces.

In order to shape the building structure  I decided to follow the same pattern of triangular shapes , this time extending  the pointed sides toward the base level . I think this was the best option , since the first model I tested the model just placing a plat floor slab not working well.

Study Model on the site 

In order to control the visual corridor , I have placed my Hybrid model this way .,which also stands the best way controlling the views toward the statue of Liberty and toward the park.

Solving the Visual Corridor 

In this sketch I tried to figure out how could I control the visual corridor, then I though to use cables attaching to each angle structure  and this stretching to the ground .

Assignment 12 - Hybrid Study Model Design Process

 

 

To develop my Hybrid model i have chosen this two study models : the "golden serpentine " which I named to interpret the program collage and the "curved edge" which represent the edge collage .

This are two sketches I draw  based on the two study models

This sketch means to show the integration of the two study models ,  I re-sketched over the first drawing , trying to develop a structure . As you see I draw three dimensional triangular spaces and also I integrated the idea of the "golden serpentine"which has to be with motion as it  rolls along the triangular structure giving to it a kind of dynamic touch .

This is the Hybrid model I have  created  after the study models and sketch process , it is composed of  three triangular elements suspended by two cables . I tried to work with the angels in order to provide high to each structure, the view to the river and the park was also important, so I tried to oriented the best way to control the views.
